Launch of the Mucalinda Snake Bracelet

It is that time of year again!

The annual Black Ball in New York is being held this evening at the Hammerstein Ballroom. This will be the 4th year that The Barbers Daughters has the honour to work with the Keep a Child Alive foundation to support the fight against HIV/AIDS. We are very excited to introduce to you the second piece to our Keep a Child Alive collection, the Mucalinda Serpent King bracelet.

Mucalinda was influenced by the Indian Deity of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha. An enlightened and awakened being, referred to as the “source of all protection.” Following his enlightenment he reflectively meditated and while doing so a prodigious storm began. Mucalinda, the Serpent King, came from beneath the Earth. He sheltered and protected Buddha from the elements by using his hood as a canopy.

With Gisele's trip to India this summer The Barbers Daughters team was educated on HIV's prevalence in India. India has the second highest HIV population worldwide with 2.4 million people diagnosed. This challenge with AIDS is due in large part to cultural factors against discussion of sexual practices. The stigma and discrimination associated with testing positive for HIV results in rejection from family and their community. With that, there are more orphans in India than any other country in the world because of HIV.

Keep a Child Alive believe life to be more than mere existence. Essential nutrition, shelter, support, and education, are supplied to those who test positive. Keep a Child Alive provides the suffering a shoulder to lean on, a heart that beats for them, and a backbone of support.

Both Mucalinda and Keep a Child Alive provide shelter and a supportive spine. By purchasing the spine of Mucalinda, $100 will be donated to supply a child the protection and stability of life.

This piece is available in solid sterling silver as well as on a red rope to symbolize blood flow.

We invite you to celebrate yourself for being part of the supportive spine.
